FRIDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER

DOROTHY SCARECROWTINMANLION- Somewhere between Joy Division, Bloc Party, White Lies, The Fall and Love with a punky edge... Niiiice

THE HAMPTONS - Pop rock with a hint of a folk element in some of the songs. Mariana says Frank Turner and Mumford & Sons, and a bit of U2 in some of their more laid-back tunes. Good stuff whateverwhichway..

FLIGHTLESS BIRD - Is Guildford in Loiusiana?! It should be on the strength of this…That 2 piece White Stripey template explored again - nice slide, very nice...George Thorogood eat yer heart out...great feel, the drums are kinda taking in jazz vibes too… Creedence, Cream, early Fleetwood Mac, Hendrix and all the old blues guys..seemingly all instrumental- definitely all good.

ANDREW BOWERS - Heart felt melodic pop... this talented solo artist with full band has a kind of Paul Weller meets Neil Young drift to his marvellous material.

REJECT CLUB DJs TIL 2AM

SATURDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER

BLUE VEILS- The BV remit is that of s anthemic punk plus something of a Hives like retro rocking into now vibe.

DOYLE & THE FOURFATHERS - All over 6music right now and we can well see why- 60s Moody Blues shaped croon n swoon songcraft with a  Velvetsy undertow and very nice melodies…often a  string section too, and a feel of Mumford & S had they been melded with The Divine Comedy in the old Fly matter transfer machine..groovy.

SWEETIE PIE & THE GUTTERMEN- With a nice and varied range of instruments: Voices, Guitars, Bass, Violin, Drums, Glockenspiel, Keys, Tambourine, Flute, Accordion, Ukulele ..[!!]..and an uplifting indie folk sound these guys are definitely onto a winner... Arcade Fire via The Airborne Toxic Event. Check now before they’re huuuuge…

DJ FUZZ TIL 2AM

SUNDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER

THE BACK ACID BAND- Sassy and salacious groove rock sounds …a bit like old gnarled Brit Blues punkers Penthouse! .. elements of Blues Explosion and Jesus Lizard if less metal, but no less unhinged..

CANJA RAVE- Brazilian duo doing a similar thing to The White Stripes, same set up in fact (girl on drums and vocals , fella on vocals + guitar) Also loads of Stooges ,Pixies and Ramones here too. Their tune "Voo das seis" is brilliant and the vid even better cuz it was filmed in Buenos Aires where only beautiful people walk the streets... will they rock? Yes they will..

DYNAMO HUM- The White Stripes with innovative '60s like harmonies.... and yes! it bloody well works!

ETHEREAL FIRE- Ace chuggerama stoner grunge with some sweet Sabs touches.

DJ CHRIS TIL 2AM

MONDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER

FIX MONDAY- Polished radiofriendly pop verging on the sweet emoting of The Feeling, even Travis or perhaps Supergrass without the punking whcked outness. Very fine and intricate pop gems to behold.

DE MOOD- At The Drive In meets Bloc Party -spirited alt synth poppin' art rock with disco machine gun drums. Nice shimmery guitars and a hellovalot of energy. We dig.

THE SPITFIRES- Oasis via The Who meets The Jam.

TUESDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER

EMPIRE STATE- C, S and N type songs/harmonizing, and a nigh on Fleetwood Mac like LA’id back narcotic niceness to wallow in.

THE NINE O WELLS - The Kooks reverberate here (first album) ..generally rock n roll influenced indie... loads and loads of Rolling Stones and a smidge of KOL... Supergrass springs to mind too... very good.

WEDNESDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER

CANDYTREE- Female fronted commercial as ya like rock with attitude... Avril Lavigne with a raw rocking groove machine at back…

BLACK RUSSIAN- Riffage galore for this hard rockers! Velvet Revolvers, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd..all served with tight leather pants and bandanas (i imagine..)

WESTERN SAND- Sepultura, Steppenwolf, , AC/DC, Skynyrd, Zep...

THURSDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER

SCARECROW- They say they're 'Acid Blues' and who are we to disagree?- well, they rock like Led Zep/Bad Company to my ear’oles- do it very well too, good Planty type singer, rasping ratty guitar [punkier than Page], excellent probing riddim section. I like. Get pretty damn funky too..

NEW YORK ALCOHOLIC ANXIETY ATTACK- The drama of Killing Joke, the attack of The Stooges, the dark intent of The Mission- a fine rocking affair.

WHYTELEAF- Early Green Day... melodic punk with a nod towards grunge... pretty raw and loud, which is how it's meant to be...some Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath here too... like a lot actually

BETA RAYS- Fizzy Britpop flavours, influenced by scientists[!!], but me I think there's a bit of The Wedding Present, The Housemartins and The Buzzcocks alongside Stephen Hawking here…and fabulous harmonies to die for too…great band!

FRIDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER

DEAD ON TV- Elvis meets The Strokes is a pretty fair assessment of the DOTV approach..some of that cool quirk n jerk post punk popism from the cool school of XTC too...

THE STANLEY BLACKS - Ice cool low slung indie rock shape throwers par excellence. The Strokes are a reference point once again as are Blur and Interpol…

SUN OF SOULS- With spine tingling melodies and bitter sweet riffs these well crafted alternative pop symphonies fly in the face of plastic pop culture. Amen..

DJ FUZZ TIL 2AM

SATURDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER

THE INDICES - Exceedingly chirpy fast paced and agreeable powerpop trio coming on like a 60s beat group melded with The Strokes...sound good. Primal Scream's ex drummer apparently.. 'Only At The Weekends' what a winner of a choon......'Take You Down' is great too, coming on like an acid punked Knack...groovy.

KOSMO KINGS- Kooky melodic pop with some fine arrangements and loadsa scope…

THE RAGS - Dublin band doing low key organic pop with plenty of boho cool as lots of Irish critics have said..good enough for Marc Riley, good enough for ye and me…superb in fact..

THE COOLERS - Reggae meets ska (although they've already known each other quite well having been introduced by rocksteady)... veeeeery Specials actually... bits of Marley, Sublime, Clash and a teenie wee bit of Madness... yano, indie pop reggae but so very well done... the Dublin Castle massive will surely dig.

DJ JIM JAMS TIL 2AM

SUNDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER

RICK CABALO - US style low slung Southern boogie tinged hip swaying rocker- so think John Cougar Mellencamp, Springsteen, Kid Rock [now] the Allman Bros with popness piped in. Some pretty cool dirty slide guitar too. And Southern belles do appropriate aching BVs and all in all you have to give it a positive thumbs up.

THE LAST ROGUES- Nirvana via early Silverchair.

THE EYE- Atmospherics soundscapes with a load of 60s psych add on top... Air, Sigur Ros, Boedekka, Beatles... really beautiful..

TRIM THE BARBER- Wall of guitars blended with delicate clean riffs. Some Joy Divison style bass with Cure like hooks. Post punk well done...

DJ VELVET VESPA TIL 2AM

MONDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER

BORDERLINE: FIRE- Prog rock a la Muse.

CHARLIE CALLEJA - Charlie Calleja recently finished a solo album, produced by Joey Waronker (REM, Beck, Smashing Pumpkins, Elliott Smith), featuring Josh Klinghoffer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Inara George from The Bird and the Bee and Priscilla Ahn. The album was engineered by Hugo Nicolson (Radiohead, Primal Scream)..expect a resemblance in the vocal dept to  Chris Martin... and yes, quite Coldplay musically...with a smidge of Gary Jules and a perfect melodic pop rock recipe.

WHITE MODELS- Led Zep, Rolling Stones, full on guitar fuelled rock a la Stripe Whites??? (well, it is the other way around for this duo, boy on drums, girl on guitar) On your face!!!!

TUESDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER

BLOW- Late '90s alternative rock with shades of britpop...

RIVER RAID - Brazilian equivalent of a funked-up Hives. Ambient synths intermingle with lovely languid vocals and guttural guitar riffs. The effect is foot stomping alt-rock, definitely hot whether in Brazil or the UK.

WEDNESDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER

AFFLICTED- This is a crisp commercial hard rock happening- autotuned vox and Van Halenic riffage- something of Metallica too , and the commerciality of Fear Factory- a good crack at pop metal, electronic drumkit n all..

ADRENALINE- Metal Italiano a la pop.

TRAINING ICARUS- Female fronted melodic heavy metal...

THURSDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER

V AND THE VENDETTAS- The hardest working pop crossover hiphop vixen in the biz now has a fab band to further her flow, venturing forth into new and eclectic areas, all good, all perky, all rocking, proper entertainment.

BLONDES IN TOKYO - Succulently dark electro pop/rock with some interesting analogue sounds that hark back to early Eno and German synth pioneers Cluster, all in all BIT make an arrestingly interesting noise.

WE WALK IN STRAIGHT LINES - The band have been described by Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music as "a band who write and play with that kind-of urgent intensity that Steve Lamacq is always on the lookout for; the kind-of feeling that they simply had to make this music or else they would explode..."  hence airplay in New York and all over the UK. Is  it those chugging guitars married to post punk vocals?…the Wedding Present like in your face unpredictable dynamics and unusual vocals? Maximo Park can most definitely be a reference... It's dark but uplifting, and mega radio friendly... natch..

5 GOAL THRILLER- 80s post punkisms shamble coolly around bittersweet melodics and an air of louche Velvets inspired give-a-fookness with which you can’t go wrong if you’re playing in a rock and roll band..

FRIDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER

THE SMYTHS - It’s been a while but we’re overjoyed to welcome The Smyths back to the DC. Tributes come and tributes go but this is a proper institution with a proper following and a beyond peerless interpretation of the Morrissey/Marr/O’Rourke/Joyce canon [and let’s not forget Gannon- two guitars shimmering and crackling on stage here!]. Not a dry eye in the house.. moisten up, swoon and dance …

DJ AUSTEN CHILLI TIL 2AM

SATURDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER

WHITE CIRCUS FEVER - Sheffield based 3 piece outfit, Alt/Rock/Indie, The Beatles meet Sex Pistols, catchy melodies with some political drive in their lyrics.

MISSING ANDY - The West London rock/funk/hiphop happening never stops going for the jugular, the performances are never less than full on, the intensity never wavers…should be massive, possibly will be- check em while ya can… nice dancing too.

NURSERY OF NAUGHTINESS - Electro rock a la Prodigy with a sweet almost-child-like female voice weaving melodies on top.... all massively epic... you could listen to it lying in your room and tripping out or dancing in a field like a maniac... I mean check the indian inspired Chemical Brothers type trance kit here…bonza!

THE FLORIDA RECOUNTS - Aha,  the songs do appear to have a ‘This Is Pop’ vibe. Early XTC’s influence reverberates once again. See also Squeeze, Joe Jackson. Bountiful sunshine streaked new new wave pop.

DJ DOUBLE HEAVY TIL 2AM

SUNDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER

HOUDINI DAX- 60s pop rock reminiscent of The Beatles with a touch of Kinks. Doesn't fall short of energy and it's got something of The Who's erratic power. Great for a boogie.

THE SALVO - Chipper indie rockings referencing The Strokes, (especially the guitars) and The Cribs.

PETE AND REPEAT - 60s psych/freakbeat informed coves who have those elfin mod Steve Marriot hair dos and all the Carnaby clobber and they make a noise not unlike an amalgam of The Kinks and The Action only a bit heavier.

PHIL JAMES- Bob Dylan via Tom Petty...

DJ FUZZ TIL 2AM

MONDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER

THE GETAWAYS- Some indie post punk rock and Kaiser Chiefs derivations. Very catchy choruses...

THE NIGHTHAWKS AT THE DINER

ALVAREZ KINGS - Sharp, attitudey indie rock with powerful drumming and an insistent sound. A bit Arctic Monks, a bit punk funk, somewhere between The Rapture and Klaxons. At times they sound like a hybrid of Duran Duran and The Gang of Four. And it works!

MISERYGUTS- Melodic folk a la Simon & Garfunkel with shades of The Beatles and The Byrds... James Taylor here too!

TUESDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER

INNAMORATI- When Bjork met Skream at a gypsy concerto for Violin, INNAMORATI was born it seems... very interesting indeed. Gypsy string fuelled dubstep trip hop!! imagine that!

DESERT SANDS- 60s psych garage rock... The Who meets the Kinks, Beatles and maybe Kasabian..

RICHARD COBB- indie acoustic troubadour...

WEDNESDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER

THE DOGBONES - Fierce female fronted grunge punk psychelic rock and bastard roll.. Queen Adreena and Daisy Chainsaw fans wont be disappointed [and they’ll certainly recognize Mr Crispin on rasping raw guitar] Elements of Nirvana, The Stooges, Sex Pistols and never afraid to bare all in the name of punk rock..sexbeat..go!

100% BEEFCOCK AND THE TITSBURSTER- Now there’s a name to conjure with- full blown guitar distortion and erratic bass lines to a backdrop of borderline psychotic drumming: picture The Aphex Twin in flagranti with early Butthole Surfers in a mental institution... gotta dig it!

THURSDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER

THE AMORETTES - Like a hot hair metal take on gal punk heroines Girls on Top. Punky elements with a serious blues rock undertone. Word up!

DEAD MAN'S ROOTS - Out and out blistering metal with a counter cultural aspect. Sure roll the tunes along frantically enough, this rocks in many ways hence good reviews in the metal press too. Metallica's old stuff is obviously a big influence.

SENIORS- Bit of a 13th Floor Elevators/Strawberry Alarm Clock vibe. A bit of Mudhoney in here also. Well done you chaps, mighty good work with impeccable influences.

YOU AND WHAT ARMY - Trance techno with screamo vocals, prog metal guitars and general genre-crushing craziness all round, ( the result of a skunk/white cider diet?!) .. outré metal boundary pushers ahoy.

FRIDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER

THE KUBRICKS - Skankingly good indie rocknroll infused ska workouts- fast paced fun fun fun.

RUNNING CLUB - Rushing the finishing line of Rock whilst topping up on the performance enhancing drugs of Roll…

DE SHAMONIX - London based raucous and melodic rock band. Primal Scream, BRMC, Rolling Stones….all good and fine , strutting and posturing like Mick Jagger on Special K..

ROCKRITES - Soulfull blue eyed reggae...some Bob Marley. Very enjoyable..

DJ FUZZ TIL 2AM

SATURDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER

PAPER SKY - Frothy prog-pop-rock nuttiness. The songs move around and together with a psychedelic will of their own. From Bologna and London apparently.

THE TOY BAND - Where Blur and XTC get mingle mangled with folky fruity fare and something of Pentangle as if re-imagined as The Cardiacs…a fab band with mucho promise.

ASSEMBLY- Belle and Sebastian via The Divine Comedy...

ME, JOHN AND THE DRUMMER - The Black Keys may well be an inspiration here, White Stripiness aboundeth too..

WE GOT KILLERS DJS TIL 2AM

SUNDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER

THE HOAX - Interesting punky indie rock with an 80s dark underbelly... A more uplifting version of Interpol perhaps?

THE TEMPS - Tempt us with something of early Fall but with some tasty East Bay Ray-esque guitar and the vocals are of the wired frenetic variety that might recall his fellow Dead Kennedy Jello Biafra…so,  has the energy of punk but goes off at weird tangents , from a garage punk tip here to recalling Hawkwind there, very odd, very entertaining though.

WRONGNOTE- And another really interesting combo …one minute it's the jerky awkward artpop of The Pop Group via The Gang Of Four with a vague nod to Futureheads, then it goes all psychedelic, but wonky psychedelic like a pre-commercial sucess Bowie, and also pull some great hooks outta the glorious mess. Great band..

DJ DOUBLE HEAVY TIL 2AM

MONDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER

THE NO-ONES - 90s American post grunge a la Foo Fighters with some early Green Day...

XANDER & THE PEACE PIRATES- Blues informed beatnik rocknroll.

TUESDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER

THE IMPALERS - Melodic easy sleazy punk ramalama that recalls 1st LP Damned, The Godfathers, Heartbreakers etc- done with much panache, it’s effortless and cool. Likes it. 'The type of music we play is gritty punk/indie, dirty rock and roll.  Influenced by bands such as The Stooges, Dead Kennedys, and The Beat Up.' Yip.

WEDNESDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER

MOVE- Local Natives meets Yeasayer - that sort of tribal beat indie that doesn't sound like Vampire Weekend... we dig!!!!

THE HAMPTONS - Pop rock with a hint of a folk. Frank Turner and Mumford & Sons, and a bit of U2 in some of their more rock laden tunes. Good stuff.

THE MARDIES - Female fronted melodic pop rock... sort of Sheryl Crow (bit cooler than that-ok Rickie Lee Jones) via The Long Blondes.. not bad..Some Arctic Monkeying around too...
