Tony Buggerbear and co-host Julie Hamill talk most engagingly with Dave and Gem about all manner of exciting things with a ‘Screenage Kicks’ undercurrent in the playlist, which is just how we roll on that there radio. Dave’s book ‘Mud Sharks’ certainly gets some appraisal, and Julie’s written her debut novel too, entitled ‘Frank’, and out now, so music, cinema, photography, literature….all covered. The Cesarians– Unveiling their new line up Bugbear are very pleased to bring the very wonderful Cesarians to The Water Rats. Following critically acclaimed albums produced by Craig Leon and Teo Millar the ‘wrong rock/odd pop’ maestros now channel a rather more electronica hinged furrow with a little less brass but no let up in the intensity and emotional maelstrom they effortlessly engender, not to mention sensational songcraft. For fans of Nick Cave, Jacques Brel, Kris Kristoffersen, Bowie yes, but all manner of things resonate in their wonderful body of work from The Fall to Pink Floyd to E.L.O. You The Living also appear tonight. With this boy/girl duo now augmented by the remarkable percussive skills of one Dave Barbarossa things can only get more intriguing. The likes of Louder Than War, Gods In The TV have already been all over them. Operating in an area somewhere between Neubatten, and the misty, mercurial end of Closer era Joy Division. Talking of Joy Division, JD Kelleher took a cover of the Manc miserabilists’ classic ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ to No.1 in the charts of his native Ireland a couple of years ago. A nicely twangsome, moody crooner’s version it was too from the household named actor/director ( playing Breandán Mac Gearailt in Irish soap Ros na Rún in addition to a raft of movies) turned LGBT activist rocknroll maverick. Coming from Portugal, Jorge Vadio is an artist with a unique voice and is an exceptional emerging talent in the world music. With influences ranging from, traditional Portuguese Fado music, mixing sounds of Brazil, Cuba, folk rock etc … His latest album “No outro lado do Mundo” takes us on a journey of typically Portugeses sounds. Jorge Vadio recorded in 2014 and 2015 with Mike Garson, David Bowie’s piano man and created the [more] Portugese version of Bowie`s song “Life On Mars” and other songs. Currently performing in Garson’s all star Star Men band paying tribute to Bowie, Jorge Vadio and his band make a special detour for this hot potato of a matinee show in The Dublin Castle, Camden, to pay tribute to David Bowie, singing the most emblematic songs of the chameleon.
