Dave Simpson : The Fallen Q and A At The Rock And Roll Book Club
with Tony Bugbear and Julie Hamill. Get Cheap Tickets Here.

No coincidence perhaps that when Dave Simpson’s much acclaimed exploration of the late great Mark E Smith‘s Fall Group casualty list first appeared 10 years ago MES suddenly settled his line up (give or take an extra drummer and an actual wife), stuck with his current lads and sacked off the serial sacking system. Sorry to be so sibilant with you. The Fall remain the world’s most iconic, singular and esoteric group, and it’s difficult to imagine that thirty year plus reign of prolific, beguiling, startling and poetic excellence ever being matched. There can never be another Mark E. Smith. Find a pivotal collision of Fall Gruppe membership behind the image above. The classic ‘Blindness’ performed by a North Atlantic Treaty of Fallenhood as part of the likewise late lamented Hammy Palais swansong show exactly 11 years ago. Absolutely stunning stuff.

Old facts remain. Thirty odd studio albums, in excess of fifty musicians passing through the ranks, grannies, bongos, punch ups, Peel quotes, all the over egged puddings of Fall lore. But that multitude of musicians remain The Fallen and Dave Simpson’s excellent book remains their story, an essential watering hole for anyone thirsty for a reviving long draft, Dan of finest Fall myth unt legend.

“Dave Simpson spent two years of his life tracking down everyone who ever played in The Fall. The resultant book is full of hilarious and shocking anecdotes about life in one of the country’s most intense and insane bands. It is also a biography in reflection of Mark E. Smith, a man who ran his group like a football team, for whom no one member is greater than the Fall”.

Tony Gleed and Julie Hamill are very pleased to bring Dave Simpson to the Dublin Castle Rock and Roll Book Club tonight for a Q and A, book signing, audience participation experience – plus a bespoke DJ set to bookend the evening featuring a plethora of rocking records in a Fall, roots, shoots and fruits fashion. He is appreciated.
