Madness, Muse, The Libertines…
The next DC cultivated legend? Doyle & The Fourfathers brand new single/vid addresses double dip recessive measures with suitable sardonic guile…
There’s no doubt the world’s in major dooh dooh right now one way and another what with democracy giving way to economocracy in the Med, the X Factor being on again and Alan Titchmarsh continuing to thrive despite my various spells and incantations..
And that’s before we start whinging helplessly about the sorry state of this darling Biz we call Music…let’s not go there, but as I said to the MD of Sony with his hands amongst the plums whilst twilight shelf stacking alongside me last night in Waitrose- ‘Gosh, I hope Simon Cowell’s doing alright.’..
Thank goodness then for a superb intelligently driven alternopop band such as the marvelous Doyle And The Fourfathers. Returning to the DC again to lay their sweet 60s kissed wry gems of songs upon ya Sat 19th Nov.
Heirs to The Smiths’ angst adorned indie throne would not be an exaggeration, add to that some Walker Bros-esque aching 60s sensibilities , Pulp like playful artiness, towering songwriting skills, a fluid yet throbbing riddim section and a very clever and innovative lead guitar player and you have the makings of an enduring classic band for the two thousand and teenies.
Talking of getting to see vibrant young talent in the intimate confines of a great small pub venue such as The Dublin Castle see also the startling Alice Watts, Dublin Castle Nov 24th -with a sweet, soulful voice somewhat akin to Joni Mitchell over sparse, inticingly edgy guitar with a wash of cello, Ms Watts’ oeuvre is rather beautiful ..this show heralds the issue of her EP, ‘Do Not Awaken Love’.
